Whether you already know a fair amount or indeed know very little about your family history, Ancestral Discovery can assist in investigating your family tree. We provide support to clients that have simply ‘hit a brick wall’ and just require a fresh set of eyes to validate and perhaps further their findings, as well as clients who merely don’t have the time and/or knowhow to do it themselves.
How We Work
In our experience, most of our clients prefer to work with us on an hourly rate basis (£25 per hour) as this offers them flexibility in terms of budget and allows us to focus on their exact requirements.
Each new commission is treated a project, therefore whichever route you choose to take, we offer a free one-hour consultation so that we can capture the background, scope and your budget requirements in order to focus our time on what is of importance to you. We can organise this consultation in a way that suits you, e.g. home visit, telephone call or Zoom/MS Teams for example. Don’t worry if you only have limited background information, we are used to working under these circumstances and after all, that’s why you’ve come to us in the first place!
Following our consultation, and once we have your approval to proceed, we will start our initial 2 hour research (normally within 2 weeks). If during this time, we are unable to gain any traction on our research, then we will notify you immediately and no charge will be incurred by you.
Once we have concluded our research, you'll receive a standard A4 black and white print of your family tree. This will be accompanied by a detailed written report in a presentation folder which contains each of the family members we have identified in your tree, as well as all of the documentation that supports our research e.g., birth/baptism, marriage, and death certificates, Wills/Probate and census returns etc.
Each page of the report is colour coded to allow you to understand and interpret the information contained on each page and we'll walk you through this when we deliver it to you.
Furthering Your Existing Research
If you have already started your research and require our assistance, we can accept your working notes in various formats including Word documents, Family Tree Maker (.ftm) or .Gedcom (standard genealogical data format) files.
We can also produce professionally printed family tree charts in a variety of different sizes at an additional cost. Please see our Custom Family Tree Charts page for further details.
Please note: Birth, marriage and death certificates can be added to any of the above packages subject to your requirements; it may be necessary to order certificates in order for us to validate our research but this will only be done once we have your written consent.
